Introducing HERA UK

HERA (Her Equality Rights and Autonomy) is on a mission to empower young women who are survivors of modern slavery to achieve a better life, working with business and academic mentors.

We are thrilled to announce HERA UK as one of our new frontline project partners. We will be supporting their UK work throughout 2021 and beyond, following a grant of £10,000 to help develop their impactful Summer Training Programme.

Learn more about their awesome work in this introduction by Sophie-Rose Holt (UK Programme Director):

At HERA UK, we are thrilled to have been chosen to partner with TRIBE Freedom Foundation. Personally, as a “wannabe adventurer” and fitness fanatic, I have been following TRIBE for a while now and the opportunity to be more involved with this wonderful community by bringing additional support to women survivors is very exciting…

Founded in 2006, HERA was set up to provide training and mentoring for ambitious and driven survivors looking to start their own business, social enterprise or prepare for employment in the world of business.

It’s a false assumption that the women who end up in modern slavery are incapable or unintelligent. Each year HERA works with women survivors to provide the confidence and skills they need to go on to develop successful careers in industries including law, education, hospitality, real estate and many more.

Annually, HERA hosts a full-time three-week summer training programme where women are taught practical and up-to-date business skills and techniques. Working together, women develop business plans in teams and have the opportunity to present these in a “Dragon’s Den format” to a panel of experts. It is at this inspiring moment we see the impact of the programme, with students taking ownership of their work and speaking with passion about their business proposals.

“HERA helped me gain confidence at one of my lowest points. With HERA’s encouragement, I realised that I could turn my life around and become independent. I am forever grateful for this experience.” HERA Student

Following graduation, every woman is matched with a personal mentor who is a professional in their field. Mentors walk alongside their mentee for the next year, encouraging the women as they take the next steps to a better life and become financially independent.

“My mentor supported and empowered me throughout all the years after graduation. I could not have done it without HERA.” – HERA Student

“I have seen my mentee grow since we first met. It is my main & only motivation to continue mentoring” – HERA Mentor

The generosity of the TRIBE community means that more women survivors will benefit from this valuable programme in 2021 and beyond.
