The UK Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner, TRIBE Freedom Foundation and Themis are collaborating on a key industry-wide research programme, investigating how the financial services industry can work to improve best practice in identifying and preventing modern slavery and human trafficking (“MSHT”).
Over the coming six months, we will be looking to understand how financial institutions are currently set up to prevent being a conduit (either directly or indirectly) to MSHT as well as exploring the checks and balances they have in place to assess and monitor their own businesses, their clients and their suppliers.
We are also investigating the specific risks faced by different types of organisations and sectors within the financial services industry and want to tease out examples of best practise so that we can formulate a sector-wide response.
We are looking for people with relevant experience, from across the whole financial services industry to come forwards and take part in this important research. Regardless of the size and nature of your business, whether you are an international bank, a regional building society, an investment or fund manager, an insurance provider, a money service business, a foreign exchange house, an independent advisor or investor, we want to hear from you.
For all to whom this applies, from senior leaders, decision-makers and business heads to client relationship managers, Money Laundering Reporting Officers, Heads of Compliance, Conduct and CSR, COOs, Procurement leaders and any other MSHT champions across the financial services industry, we are asking for two key things:
1. Survey: To take part in our industry poll (here) and to share this across your business networks so that we get as wider audience as possible. (NB. The survey should take no more than 10 minutes and all answers are anonymous.)
2. Interviews: We are looking for a select group of senior business leaders to participate in a more structured set of interviews and CEO roundtables. This will is to help us to delve deeper and get a real understanding of how the financial services industry is set up to tackle MSHT.
